Combining a wide range of texts from the early 19th century to the modern day, the course challenges you to read a wider range of texts and further develop the creative writing skills you work so hard to acquire at GCSE. You will develop your critical thinking skills studying, drama poetry and both modern and classic novels, as well as developing your independent study skills though an NEA coursework assignment.
Paper 1: Telling stories (40%) Remembered places – the representation of place Imagined worlds – point of view and genre in prose Poetic voices – the forms and functions of poetic voice Methods of language analysis are integrated into the activities Written exam: 3 hours (100 marks) Paper 2: Exploring conflict (40%) Writing about society – the role of the individual in society Critical commentary – evaluating own writing Dramatic encounters – conflict in drama Methods of language analysis are integrated into the activities Written exam: 2 hours 30 minutes (100 marks) Non-exam assessment: Making connections (20%) Making connections – investigation on a chosen theme and texts Methods of language analysis are integrated into the activity
