Course summary
BTEC Applied Science is designed to provide a more practical, real-world approach to learning alongside a clearly explained and structured theoretical background. This will help you to develop the knowledge, understanding and skills to prepare you to meet the needs of employers as well as supporting your progression to university or an apprenticeship. You will study a range of units that include: Unit 1 – Principles and Applications of Science I Unit 2 – Practical Scientific Procedures and Techniques Unit 3 – Science Investigation Skills Unit 8 – Physiology and Human Body Systems Unit 9 – Human Regulation and Reproduction Unit 10 – Biological Molecules and Metabolic Pathways Unit 18 – Industrial Chemical Reactions Unit 21 – Medical Physics The course is equivalent to three ‘A’ levels and allows excellent progression to a wide range of Science degrees as well as apprenticeships. Work experience is a key part of your course - you will need to find a minimum of 5 days over the course of the academic year to allow you to gain the knowledge of working within the Science industry; this could be at a Pharmacy, GP surgery, Pet Shop, Care home or somewhere else that is related to the Science sector. Your Personal Coach will help you write a plan for potential placements to help you gain this key skill.
