Course summary

Psychology is a scientific exploration of human behaviour and emotion. On this course, you will have an opportunity to develop an understanding of the main theoretical perspectives within the subject, including; biological, behavioural, cognitive, psychodynamic and the positive approach. You will understand how each perspective explains and treats a variety of abnormal behaviours, alongside this you will study a range of core studies within each field. You will also study research methods and understand how psychological investigations are carried out. You will then have the opportunity to apply this knowledge to your own small- scale investigations and develop skills that will allow you to collect and analyse data using statistical analysis. In addition, you will study the application of Psychology to real life, looking specifically at the causes of schizophrenia, addiction and theories of crime. Finally, you will cover issues and debates in Psychology including whether sexism and culture bias still exist within Psychology.

Entry requirements

You will need GCSE's with 2 grade 6s and 3 grade 5s including English Language and Maths. A good grade (5 and above) in Biology, or Double Science is desirable.

How you'll be assessed

The course is assessed through 3 written examinations.
