Course summary

The aim of this qualification is to enhance the skills developed in the introductory level. You will master more complex financial processes, including final accounts for sole traders and partnerships, reports and returns and professional ethics. As a standalone qualification, or as a first step towards the advanced levels, it will allow you to move up to farther study in accountancy and finance. This level will suit you if: - You’ve completed the introductory accounting level and would like to build you're skills - You’re already working in finance and you’d like a formal recognition of you're skills - You would like to go on to be an AAT full member or study for chartered status This qualification is a high-quality training programme designed to help you to become as effective as possible in you're career and gain an internationally recognised qualification relating to you're work. (They're is also an option to complete the shorter qualification AAT Level 3 Certificate in Bookkeeping consisting of 2 units - Tax Processes for Businesses, Financial Accounting: Preparing Financial Statements) Course Overview: Financial Accounting: Preparing Financial Statements: You will learn about producing statements of profit or loss and statements of financial position for sole traders and partnerships, the bookkeeping skills required to record financial transactions into an organisation’s accounts, depreciation and allowances for doubtful debts. Tax Processes for Businesses: You will learn about value-added tax (VAT), submitting returns, sanctions and penalties and using the accounting system to extract relevant data for VAT returns. Management Accounting - Costing: on this unit, you will learn the role of cost and management accounting in an organisation and how organisations use such information to aid management decision-making. Students will also be required to use spreadsheets when making calculations, manipulating and analysing data, reporting, and forecasting. Business Awareness: This unit provides students with an understanding of the business, its environment and the influence that this has on an organisation’s structure and the role of its accounting function and its performance.

Entry requirements

A good standard of literacy and numeracy (ideally grade C or above at GCSE). Current (or recent) practical experience or an AAT Level 2 Foundation Certificate. You may need to attend an interview and undertake a skills assessment.
