The specification has been designed to encourage candidates to take a broad view of design and technology, to develop the capacity to design and make products and to appreciate the complex relations between design, materials, manufacture and marketing. To achieve an A Level in Product Design you will also need to master the following key skills: • Critical thinking, creativity and problem-solving. • Ability to investigate the design and manufacture of products and systems. • Ability to use sketching to communicate ideas. • Develop and make prototypes to solve real-world problems. • Ability to use digital technologies in designing and creating products. • Consideration of important issues that affect design in the wider world such as sustainability, globalization and inclusive design.
You would normally have successfully completed a GCSE course in Design and Technology or Engineering, achieving at least a grade 5. If you do not have the relevant qualifications, come and talk to us about a possible place on the course.
