The Edexcel A Level Mandarin Chinese course provides a progression pathway from GCSE level Chinese. The course provides students with the opportunity to further develop their ability to understand and communicate confidently and clearly using Mandarin Chinese. It is designed to be appealing and engaging to students, while preparing them for future study and work. Candidates taking the A Level Mandarin Chinese course are required to take all assessment components at the end of the two-year course in one exam season.
- Grade 5 in English and Maths PLUS at least 3 other GCSE grades 5 or above
Paper 1: Listening, reading and translation (2 hours, 40%) Paper 2: Written response to works and translation (2 hours 40 minutes, 30%) Paper 3: Speaking (internally conducted and externally assessed) (21-23 minutes, incl. 5 minutes’ prep time, 30%)
