Spanning the Atlantic and ranging over five centuries, this study programme will immerse you in cultures both real and perceived. From the English Renaissance to the contemporary North American novel, and beyond into blogs, transcripts, and graphic memoirs, you will see how our environments, politics, and societies have shaped the written worlds in which we often find escape. This two year English Language and Literature course allows students to develop their approaches to drama, poetry, prose and non-literary texts. We will investigate the linguistic and representative choices made by authors/creators through the lenses of gender, psychoanalysis, marxism, race, and environmental factors, which will allow for great insight into many subjects and industries; sociology, psychology, history, geography, law, politics, film, media, and drama. On this English study programme, you can expect lots of discussions, debates, and plenty of close analysis - this is therefore an excellent choice for anyone interested in current issues, cultural development, and sharing opinions. It is a great balance between wide-ranging concepts and specific nuanced analysis of word choice - perfect for anyone who loves the written and spoken word.
At least six GCSEs at grade 5 or above in a good range of subjects, including both English and Mathematics. Additional entry requirements for this course are: A minimum of a grade 6 in GCSE English Language and GCSE English Literature.
This course is assessed through two external examinations (total 80%) and NEA Coursework (20%) in second year.
