Business at A Level is a challenging subject with high standards of both numerical and literacy skills required. It is not mandatory to have studied Business at GCSE but students must have a genuine interest in the business world. It is essential that students can express themselves clearly in written work and join the course prepared to appreciate and challenge business objectives. Students will analyse real business situations and examples and identify where problems have arisen and where success has been managed, as well as developing financial skills and an ability to analyse business financial statements. You will develop a clear and concise style of writing enabling you to communicate effectively in a business setting. You will also learn how to analyse and interpret economic indicators, to work out how they may affect a business and what action should be taken to benefit from these, or minimise the damage.
- Level 5 at both Maths and English Language is recommended - All students must have gained a minimum of five grades 9-4 at GCSE to gain entry onto Level 3 courses, which should include English and Maths at GCSE.
Paper 1: Marketing, people and global business. Paper 2: Business activities, decisions and strategy. This will assess business finance and operations, business decisions and strategy. Paper 3: Investigating business in a competitive environment. Paper 3 will assess content across all four themes. Questions will be drawn from local, national and global contexts. There will be a pre-released document that will focus on a broad context, such as an industry or market in which businesses operated.
