If you’re a thrill seeker or someone who loves the outdoors, then this course is the first step in an adventure that will last a lifetime. A career in the adventure sports industry could take you anywhere. Our former students have found employment across Europe and in America, whether that’s leading expeditions, scaling rock faces, or kayaking river rapids. Everything in this course is designed to prepare you to lead and instruct outdoor activities. The priority is to develop your understanding of a wide range of adventure sports disciplines, from climbing and caving to kayaking and canoeing. You’ll also learn many skills that support these activities, including fitness training, mountain rescue, and leadership training. We aim to give you all of the skills, the equipment, and the experience to excel in the adventure sports industry. With so many career paths and job opportunities available, we allow you to take control of your learning by creating your own goals and outcomes. This lets you tailor your experience around particular sports and activities that interest you, as well as allowing you to focus on your personal growth, both as a leader and as a professional. You’ll be learning from an experienced team of outdoor leaders, who have worked in a range of activities and settings all over the world. They’ve seen everything that a career in adventure sports can throw at you. That expertise resonates throughout the course, as you learn from their experience and prepare for your career. This is an outdoor course, but it also focuses on your employment prospects, blending practical and theoretical learning. Everything that you do is related to the workplace so that by the time you graduate you can stand in front of a group of eager adventurers with confidence, ready to lead them into any challenge ahead. This course will open up many different career paths and employment opportunities for you. Our graduates have had successful careers as expedition leaders, outdoor guides, and instructors. Some went directly into employment as instructors, coaches or activity centre managers, while others continued their studies at university. We want to give you more than skills within a particular sport or activity – we want to help you take those skills and make a career out of them. We’ll give you the opportunity to work towards internationally recognised industry qualifications, which will help you stand out from the crowd when seeking employment. If you do wish to continue your studies, University Centre South Devon offers a range of sports-based degrees allowing you to specialise in an area that you are passionate about. We currently offer a dedicated foundation degree in Adventure Leadership, as well as top-up bachelor’s degrees in Coaching or Sport and Exercise Science. Each of these programmes develops the key skills that are shared across the sport and active leisure industry while enabling you to build your area of expertise. You’ll be guided by a team of professionals who have lived and breathed adventure sports and know the industry inside out. Whatever challenges you have or goals you set, we’ll give you the head start you need to succeed in your adventure.
