During this Level 2 course, you will develop skills, confidence and experience in cutting and styling women's hair. You will learn basic cutting techniques, learn how to shampoo and condition hair, apply colour, and finally style and finish hair for magnificent results. This Level 2 Certificate in Hairdressing will provide you with the appropriate experience to enable you to pursue a career as a hair stylist. Hairdressing is an ever growing industry and the demand for qualified stylists extends from you local village to international cities, this provides flexibility for a career you can take to a specialised level, travel or work around your family commitments. You will develop skills in advising and consulting with clients, shampoo, conditioning and treating the hair and scalp , change hair colour, style and finish hair, set and dress hair, cut hair using basic techniques, cut men's hairstyles and develop and maintain your effectiveness at work and health and safety. You will also develop the right standard of English and Maths for the workplace. Your reception duty will include the use if the salon IT system. You will carry out services on paying clients so that you will enter the world of work with plenty of commercial experience. Additional skills which will help you are; motivation and the will to succeed, dedication and enthusiasm to cope when the going gets tough, the ability to communicate, creativity and a good standard of appearance to promote the industry. You will have the chance to visit Salon International Exhibition in London and attend a wide range of enrichment including specialist workshops. Opportunities to shine will include encouragement to take part in internal and external skills events. Successful completion of Hairdressing Level 2 will provide a progression route to Level 3 Hairdressing.
Minimum four grade 3-9 at GCSE or successful completion of the Level 1 course, and English and/or maths at grade 3.
Your knowledge and understanding in these units will be collected in a portfolio of evidence. Guidance for this will come from your assessor. Your assessor may also ask questions to confirm your knowledge and understanding. Your assessor will also observe your performance in practical lessons and during commercial salon sessions in a realistic working environment.
