The Extended Project is based on either an extended essay or report of 5000 words, or an artifact supported by a shorter report. It will be undertaken on a topic of your choosing, which may be linked to your A Level subjects, but will lead you to explore an area outside of them. Note that this course is normally started towards the end of your first year. The EPQ is designed to offer additional support for any university route. It will give you many essential skills for progression, including referencing techniques, critical analysis of resources, identification of fallacies in reasoning, presentation skills and organizational skills such as the use of the Gantt chart. Many students study a topic that relates to their prospective university course and/or career. As such, the EPQ offers an excellent ability to further research those destinations.
Available to all A Level students (usually started towards the end of year 1). A willingness to manage an additional qualification on top of your A Level subjects is critical
Assessment will be by a holistic judgment of your whole project.
