In studying A-Level English Language, learners will develop a deep knowledge of how the English language works and a secure understanding of the language system. Pupils will study a wide variety of texts, both written and spoken as well as texts from across different periods to consider how language is used, how it has changed and is currently changing. Students will engage with specialised language terminology, concepts and theories and be expected to apply their knowledge in both their analysis of language and their creative writing.
• The minimum entry criteria for our Level 3 Pathways is at least 5 GCSEs at grade 4 or equivalent • A-Level Pathway must include mathematics or English • Grade 5 in English
• Examination 1: Exploring Language (2 hours 30 minutes) worth 40% of A-Level. • Examination 2: Dimensions of Linguistic Variation (2 hours 30 minutes) worth 40% of A-Level. • Coursework: Independent Language Research worth 20% of A-Level.
