Course summary

Prepare for a career as an Engineering Technician or Operative with this Level 3 course. The focus is on developing your skills and knowledge in a range of electrical / electronic and mechanical disciplines as you gain an insight into the wider engineering industry. Here at B&FC, we are an enthusiastic, expert and experienced team, and fully committed to helping you develop the skills, knowledge and experience needed for your future career. Successful completion of the course will equip you to progress to a Degree-Level course or you might prefer to go straight into employment. We use a variety of learning and teaching methods, which emphasise the link between knowledge and application. These might include lectures, demonstrations, practical investigations, seminars, workshops, tutorials, group and individual project work, supervised independent learning, open and resource-based learning, online learning and work placements. Teaching and learning will also take the form of large and small groups, with a blend of tutor-led, student-led and independent learning sessions. This provides a motivating, supportive learning experience which enables everyone to achieve their potential Each module is delivered over a maximum of 60 hours of lessons, divided between theory and practical work appropriate to that module's content. Each taught hour should typically be accompanied by an hour of independent study.

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs grade 4 or above or Level 2 relevant qualification.

How you'll be assessed

The modules covered in this course include: • Engineering Principles • Delivering Engineering Processes Safely as a Team • Engineering Product Design and Manufacture • Applied Commercial and Quality Principles in Engineering • Specialist Engineering Project During each module you will undertake a range of assignments, designed to assess your skills, experience and knowledge. These will consist of practical-based studies, research, written assignments, and individual and group presentations. There are also controlled exams for some modules.
