The Business sector covers a large range of occupations and professions and through this course you will become aware of the variety of interesting opportunities that this Business qualification can lead to. The pace of change in the business world continues to increase; what was satisfactory yesterday is no longer wanted today or maybe superseded by something better tomorrow. The business sector relies heavily on innovation and enterprise and the development of small businesses, as students you be given the opportunity, not only to learn about the world of business, but also to apply your knowledge to real life situations. This qualification is designed to provide you with the knowledge and experience to develop a range of skills and techniques, personal skills and attributes essential for work in the business environment. Business is designed for students who have not studied the subject before as well as those who may have followed a GCSE (or similar) course. It is a stimulating and enjoyable course as well as being a great introduction to the many varied job and career possibilities in business today. Because it offers you a window onto the world of business it is both excellent preparation for work and will also help you decide on a career. If you wanted to study this subject at university you can choose between a general business studies course and/or one specialising in one of the various aspects of business: accounting, human resource management, marketing etc.
General entry requirements of 5 GCSE qualifications grade 4 or above to include both Maths and English Language at a grade 4 or above. Students do not need to have studied Business Studies at GCSE before starting this course.
AS level: 2 written papers, each 50% of the total AS, each 1 hour 30 minute duration. A level: 3 written papers, each 33.3% of the total A level, and each 2 hours duration.
