Course summary

This A Level is included within the following A Level pathways as a Recommended core subject: Business and Entrepreneurship; Engineering; Environment, Geography and Earth Science; Financial Pathway; Maths, Physics and Computer Science; Medical Health; STEM and Healthcare. It is included in the following pathways as a recommended additional subject: Design and Media; Humanities; Law and Legal; Social Sciences. However, you can take Mathematics with any A Level/equivalent combination, there is plenty of choice and flexibility. We deliver lessons that are engaging and challenging, supporting you to work both independently and collaboratively. This course expands on GCSE topics, such as trigonometry and equations of a straight line, then introduces new areas such as calculus, exponentials, logs, sequences and series. All lesson material is available electronically, so you will have access at any time and from any place. We use One Note to record lecture notes, as well as the uploading and subsequent marking of student work. This ensures you have a digital folder of all your important work. Lectures may also be recorded to aid revision and catch-up when needed. In addition, there is extensive material available online from the College’s Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), the MEI Integral Maths website and the Cambridge Go online textbooks. We offer additional classes for extension and student-led support classes are also run several times a week. You can also contact your lecturer via Teams and email at any time.

Entry requirements

Five GCSEs at grade 4/C or above, including 6/B in Maths. You must be enthusiastic and the willing to challenge yourself by thinking logically and building on the mathematical skills you have already developed.

How you'll be assessed

You will study for 4.5 hours per week in your first year and 5 hours per week in your second. You should plan on spending an equivalent time on homework and private study, making full use of the extensive resources available. Mock exams are held during the first year (in February/March), but do not count towards the final A Level. Exams for the whole A Level are held in June of the second year.
