Course summary
This A Level is included within the following A Level pathways as a Recommended Core subject: Humanities; Law and Legal; Social Sciences. It is included in the following pathways as a Recommended Additional Subject: Business and Entrepreneurship; English and Communications. However, you can choose Government and Politics with any A Level/equivalent combination, there is plenty of choice and flexibility. You will study contemporary politics and ideologies and gain an understanding of the British and American systems of government. This course will develop your discussion and debating skills, encouraging you to analyse and challenge the nature of democracy. You will explore the key issues that shape this country and the USA, including debates around Human Rights and Brexit. Studying Britain and America now is probably more exciting than it's ever been! In Year One you will study: UK Politics and UK Government and in Year Two: Political ideologies, Government & Politics of the USA, and Feminism. You will use textbooks, articles and internet resources. You should read quality newspapers, listen to relevant podcasts and watch television news regularly, to enhance your studies and your knowledge of relevant issues.
