Covering all aspects of domestic and commercial installation, this one-year course will develop your practical electrical installation skills. Aimed at adults (19+) the course is a stepping stone to level 3 which is the required level to be recognised as a qualified tradesperson. You will have access to our industry-standard facilities and expert teaching to support your studies. There are five units throughout this course including health and safety in building services; principles of electrical science; electrical installations; installation of wiring systems; and understanding how to communicate with others within building services engineering. The units are achieved by both practice and theory study. Practical installations of both domestic and commercial installs will be covered.
You will need to demonstrate evidence of an appropriate level of practical ability/skills. We normally require four GCSEs at grade 3/D or above including English and maths and/or a full level 1 qualification in an electrical discipline. Candidates without these qualifications who can demonstrate academic ability to succeed at level 2 will also be considered. All applicants will be required to complete an initial assessment to determine suitability for this course.
You will complete continuous assessments across various units and practical work. As part of this course you will need to complete a two day summative practical assessment which will be carried out during weekdays towards the end of the summer term. You will need to be available for this end assessment and will need to book time off work.
