Course summary

Are you compassionate and driven to help other people? This course could be your next step towards a fulfilling career in the health and social care sector, where you’ll be making a real difference every day. On this A-Level equivalent course, you’ll study units which reflect your own interests and career choices, tailoring your learning towards your personal goals. Work experience is a crucial part of the course. We will help you find a placement that allows you to put the skills in learn in college into practice and gives you a real taste of your future. You’ll be taught by our specialist lecturers who have years of experience working in the industry; they’ll be able to give you a valuable insight into the challenges and rewards of working in health and social care. The course is run over two years. In the first year you’ll complete the Level 3 Foundation Diploma and subsequently the Level 3 Extended Diploma, which will give you the UCAS points necessary to progress into higher education. Alternatively, you’ll have the experience and knowledge to start looking for a role in the industry. Theory and practical learning are both essential elements of the course and crucial to the health and social care industry. Core modules include anatomy and physiology, development through the life stages, psychology and sociology. These modules will lay the foundation for study at university level, and help you tackle a wide range of scenarios in your career. You’ll also learn how to translate this knowledge into everyday skills in the workplace, with modules on research methods, examining up-to-date case studies and supporting your studies with your work experience. You’ll also have the opportunity to obtain a First Aid qualification alongside your studies, which will be invaluable when seeking employment.
