A Level PE is a practical and engaging course that allows students to study PE in an academic setting. A Level PE is a popular option at Ashlawn Sixth Form and the course will prepare learners for the further study of PE or sports science courses as well as other related subject areas such as psychology, sociology and biology. The course allows learners to explore an activity in detail as a performer or coach, chosen from a wide variety of sporting activities. Learners will also be required to analyse and evaluate performance in a chosen activity. Exam Paper 1: Physiological factors affecting performance • Applied anatomy and physiology • Exercise physiology • Biomechanics Exam Paper 2 Psychological factors affecting performance • Skill acquisition • Sports psychology Exam Paper 3 Socio-cultural issues in physical activity and sport • Sport and society • Contemporary issues in physical activity and sport Performance in physical education Candidates are assessed in one practical activity, either as a performer or as a coach. Candidates are also assessed in an Evaluation and Analysis of Performance for Improvement (EAPI) verbal examination.
• To enter Sixth Form you require 5 GCSE’s Grade 4 and above, including English or Maths. • For students who typically attain 9-5 grades at GCSE. • Grade 6 GCSE PE written exam papers and grade 5 English, or suitability interview. An ability to play and coach one sport at a high level.
Paper 1: 90 minute written paper = 30% Paper 2: 1 hour written paper = 20% Paper 3: 1 hour written paper = 20% Totalling 70% written examinations Practical assessment - 15% EAPI verbal examination - 15%
