Course summary

History develops a broad range of desirable skills and complements many other subjects. In Paper 1 you will focus on the story of the Russian Communist State 1917-91, how the Soviets controlled the people; the economic and social developments the Communists imposed, and the reasons behind the fall of the USSR. The second paper is a study of Mao’s China; how Mao established rule and life within Communist China. The third paper investigates rebellion and disorder in the Tudor period. For the coursework (worth 20% of the A Level), you will evaluate the key historical interpretations of the Civil Rights Movement in the USA, particularly focusing on the factors that created change in the fight for black rights.
