Mathematics is more than just long division! Studying Mathematics helps us find patterns and structure in our lives. Practically, Mathematics helps us put a price on things, create graphics, build websites, build skyscrapers and generally understand how things work or predict how they might change over time and under different conditions. In this sense, studying Mathematics helps predict the future. A Level Mathematics builds from GCSE Mathematics and introduces new topics such as differentiation and integration. Over the 2 years you will cover; proof, algebra and functions, coordinate geometry, sequences and series, trigonometry, exponentials and logarithms and numerical methods. Alongside pure maths you will also study statistics and mechanics and cover topics such as probability, statistical distributions, hypothesis testing, forces, moments and kinematics. Studying Maths at A Level gives you a great platform, even if you do not go on to pursue it at degree level.
- Grade 5 or above in Higher Tier GCSE Mathematics. - General entry requirement: 5 GCSEs grade 4+ including Maths and English
