The BTEC National Diploma provides a specialist work related qualification that covers the key knowledge and practical skills required in the field of laboratory technicians in a wide range of vocational situations, eg quality control, forensic or medical science. The course allows students to continue to study all 3 science subjects beyond GCSE. The qualification offers an engaging programme of mainly internally assessed coursework for those students who are clear about the area of employment they wish to enter. (6) - Core Units 1. Entry requirements

• To enter Sixth Form you require 5 GCSE’s Grade 4 and above, including English or Maths. • For students who typically attain 9-4 grades at GCSE. • Five GCSE’s at Grade 4 inc Grade 4 in Maths and Grade 4-4 in Sciences, Merit in BTEC First Award in Applied Sciences and Science Dept. recommendation.

How you'll be assessed

This course contains a high proportion of internally assessed coursework, there will be externally examined units which are marked externally, these will make up 46% of the course. For all external examinations you have one opportunity to re-sit the examination, with your highest mark counting towards your overall grade.
