Sociology is the study of Society. As sociologists we ask many questions such as; Is the family a universal institution? Why do(es) some social groups underperform within the education system? Does religion cause conflict or provide stability and why does crime exist in society? Although Sociology is a very different subject to Psychology, they complement each other well. Many of our students also study Philosophy and Ethics and Health & Social Care BTEC.
You will need to have a minimum of 5 A* - C grades at GCSE to study this course with at least a grade C in English Language GCSE. Experience has shown us that the students who succeed in and enjoy Sociology the most tend to have certain things in common: "I already have opinions about certain problems in society", "I enjoy reading newspapers, books and magazines", "I make a point of watching documentaries and news programmes", "I like to discuss my point of view". To study A-Level subjects, you will need to achieve a minimum of 3 grade 5s and 2 grade 4s at GCSE including Maths and English Language.
