The course is composed of three components: Component 1 - Physical Geography, includes Water and Carbon cycles; Coastal systems and landscapes and Hazards (volcanic, seismic and storm hazards). Component 2 - Human Geography, includes Global systems and governance; Changing places and Contemporary urban environments. Component 3 - A geographical investigation with a 3,000-4,000 word project on one part of the course linked to the required four days of fieldwork.
5 GCSE’s at grade 5+ (or Merit+ in equivalents). If the 5 passes does not include English (language or literature) and mathematics of grade 5+, students must, in addition, achieve at least a grade 4 in English (language or literature) and mathematics. In addition, GCSE Geography at grade 5 or above and ideally a grade 5 or above in both English and mathematics.
Examinations (two papers) - 80% Geographical investigation - 20%
