Though largely based on calculation and analysis, the course is comprises a wide range of topics giving access to further study of any area in the future ➢ Working as a physicist ➢ Mechanics ➢ Electric circuits ➢ Materials ➢ Waves and particle nature of light ➢ Further mechanics ➢ Electric and magnetic fields ➢ Nuclear and particle physics ➢ Thermodynamics ➢ Space ➢ Nuclear radiation ➢ Oscillations Practical work is at the heart of the qualification and there are 16 Core Practicals which need to be observed and the skills associated with them need to be applied and recorded to achieve the Practical Endorsement.

Entry requirements

Students with a GCSE average point score* of between 5.0 and 7.0 are strongly encouraged to take three A Level courses Grade 6 in GCSE Physics. If studying Combined Science GCSE, students must achieve Grade 7 in the Physics component. Must also take Maths at AS or A Level.

How you'll be assessed

There are three written papers, two of 1 hour 45 minutes (30% each) and one of 2 hours 30 minutes (40%), the third paper focusing largely on the language of data and practical skills.
