Course summary

You will develop an understanding of The education and childcare sector from ages 0 to 19 Child development How to support children and young people's education Safeguarding, health and safety and well-being Understanding and managing behaviour, Observing and assessing children and young people's, Equality and diversity, Special educational needs and disability, English as an additional language, Working with parents, Carers and wider families, Working with agencies and services that support children, families and carers, Reflective practice and other forms of professional development. In addition to the core content, each student will also complete at least one module of occupation-specific content: Early years education and childcare Assisting teaching Supporting and mentoring students in further and higher education (available from September 2021).

Entry requirements

5 GCSE’s grade 4 or above or successful completion of a relevant Level 2 study programme (including Maths and English at 5 or above).

How you'll be assessed

There are two written examinations and an employer-set project for the Core Component which will be graded A*-E and U. Synoptic assignments are used to assess the Occupational Specialism which is graded Distinction/Merit/Pass and Ungraded. 750 hours of industry placement must also be completed.
