This one-year full-time qualification covers a wide range of knowledge and skills required for working as an advanced craft site carpenter. You will learn about the industry, including the principles of constructing buildings, and the types of information used in building design and construction. You will learn about health, safety, and environmental issues faced on construction sites, and how to communicate with others on the job, including supervisory skills such as planning, organizing, and pricing work. You will also learn practical skills specific to site carpentry. You will take six compulsory units in Principles of organizing, planning, and pricing of construction work, Constructing cut roofing, Fitting doors, and windows and their finishings, Fixing stairs with turns, Principles of maintenance and repair, and setting up and using fixed and transportable machinery.
Successful completion of Level 2 in the subject plus maths or English at grade C / 4.
Assessment is on practical skills and theoretical knowledge.
