Course summary
The EPQ allows you to develop and explore your personal interests on a topic you feel genuinely enthusiastic about. It will also give you a taste of independent research-led study, something that you will have to do regularly at university. The project has no exams, just coursework so if you're self-motivated and enjoy working independently - whether in a practical way, like designing or performing or researching, investigating, and writing - then the Extended Project is for you. Units of study: Fundamentals of Science: - measurements in science; communicating scientifically; identifying structures and functions of cells; investigating energy transfers Working in the Science Industry: scientific procedures in the workplace; working safely in science; designing a scientific laboratory; laboratory management Scientific Practical Techniques: using analytical techniques; using instruments and sensors for investigations; separate and assess the purity of substances. Human Body Systems (Option Unit): levels of organization within the body; digestive system; circulatory system; immunity; respiratory system. Practical Chemical Analysis (Option Unit): using standard solutions; industrial laboratories and how they work; analyzing spectroscopy data; using chromatography.
