This course has been designed to excite students’ minds about current world issues, challenge perceptions and stimulate their investigative and analytical skills. Fieldwork and research skills are key features of the course. Out-of-classroom activities add to the enjoyment and relevance of geography and build on learning done in the classroom. Residential fieldwork takes place in Y12, alongside other 1 day field-trips. Students investigate physical, human and environmental topics including ‘Hazards’, ‘Coastal systems and landscapes’ and ‘Global systems and global governance’. Students also have the opportunity to complete an independent fieldwork enquiry through the NEA, based on their fieldwork experience.
Component 1: Physical geography 2 hour 30 minute exam (40%) Coastal systems and landscapes Hazards Water and carbon cycles Component 2: Human geography 2 hour 30 minute exam (40%) Contemporary urban environments Global systems and global governance Changing places Component 3: Geographical investigation (20%) Students complete an individual investigation (NEA) that includes collection of data in the field.
