Reading about others, we realise that we are not alone - we read to discover a greater understanding of ourselves, of what it means to be human. If you enjoy debating the big questions about the human condition - of what it means to be alive - then A Level Literature is for you. An A Level in English Literature is highly regarded by universities and is excellent preparation for a wide range of degree courses. - Grade 6 in English Literature - For A Level subjects, students are expected to achieve an average grade score of 5.5 from their GCSE grades and a grade 4 in English (Literature or Language) and Mathematics.
1. Drama Othello by William Shakespeare A Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams 2. Prose Linked by the theme of ‘Science & Society’. At least one of the prose texts must be pre-1900. The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood Frankenstein by Mary Shelley 3. Poetry Students study: poetic form, meaning and language a selection of post-2000 specified poetry and a specified range of poetry from the Victorian period 4. NEA (coursework) Students will produce a 2,500 word essay comparing two texts that are thematically linked: The core text is The Bloody Chamber by Angela Carter Students are allowed to choose their comparison text (within the parameters laid out by the exam board)
