It helps us to recognize the warning signs of past mistakes and inspires us to build a more positive future. History is one of the most useful disciplines because it develops a vast array of skills, from analyzing conflicting interpretations and evaluating the significance of evidence to shaping arguments and reaching balanced conclusions. WHAT WILL I STUDY The specification content is divided into two main units: The Tudors: 1485-1603 Democracy and Nazism: Germany, 1918-1945 Plus, a mini-unit on the Modernisation of Russia can be used for the coursework element (NEA). WHERE CAN HISTORY LEAD? History is a highly respected academic subject which prepares students for any career which requires the ability to carry out research, put together a convincing argument, write analytically, and assess reliability and bias. History is a fascinating subject in its own right, and complements other 'written' subjects, but also can add balance for students choosing to pursue a maths/science route by demonstrating a student's diversity of skills. This is something looked favorably on by universities and employers.
To study A Levels you will need to have achieved 5 grade 5s or better at GCSE (as well as achieving at least grade 4 in GCSE English and mathematics). It is recommended that you have achieved a minimum of grade 5 in GCSE history.
This is a two-year course with two exams taking place at the end of Year 13 as well as the submission of coursework (NEA). ASSESSMENT OVERVIEW Paper 1 - The Tudors: 1485-1603 40% of the total mark. Paper 2 - Democracy and Nazism: Germany, 1918-1945 40% of the total mark. NEA (Non examined assessment) 20% of the total mark.
