Course summary

The single option, which is the extended certificate includes 4 mandatory units and 2 optional units. The mandatory units are; • Building positive relationships in health and social care – portfolio unit • Equality and diversity – external assessment • Health, safety and security – external assessment • Anatomy and physiology for health and social care – external assessment Optional units include: promoting positive behaviour, the impact of long term physiological conditions, nutrition, public health, sexual health, reproduction and early development stages, psychology and sociological perspectives in health and social care, supporting those with mental health conditions, creativity and activity for children and young people, supporting people with learning disabilities and dementia, and working with children and young people.

Entry requirements

For Level 3 courses the minimum requirement is 5 x GCSE grades at 4/5 and above (normally including English and Maths) including a minimum of a grade 4/5 in the subjects you wish to study. Ideally 5 x GCSEs at Grade 4 or above. There is no requirement to have previously studied Health and Social Care.

How you'll be assessed

There is a mixture of external examinations and internally assessed tasks.
