Biology involves the study of a wide range of exciting topics, ranging from molecular biology to the study of ecosystems and from microorganisms to genetic engineering Topics covered over the two years: • Biological molecules • Cells • Organisms exchange substances with their environment • Genetic information, variation and relationships between organisms • Energy transfers in and between organisms • Organisms respond to changes in their internal and external environments • Genetics, populations, evolution and ecosystems, • The control of gene expression
You will need at least a grade 6 in GCSE biology or GCSE combined science. It is also required that you have a level 5 in both GCSE Mathematics and English.
Over the two years, you will study a range of topics which will be examined in three papers at the end of two years of study. A separate endorsement of practical skills will be taken alongside the A - level. This will be assessed by teachers and will be based on direct observation of students’ competency in a range of skills that are not assessable in written exams.
