This course aims to prepare students simultaneously for university and employment across many sectors, With a higher proportion of practical work compared to traditional science A-levels. This courses offers pupils modern, work-related qualifications opening the door to higher education and careers. Applied Science offers a fantastic opportunity to develop analytical skills that are greatly sought by many professional careers. Clear purpose and support defined progression routes into higher education or employment. Key concepts studied in all 3 areas of science: Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. These modules include the periodicity and properties of chemical elements; cell and tissue structures and functions; the the function of organ systems; and the uses of waves in communication. Students will also hone their skills in titrations, colorimetry, microscopy, and chromatographic techniques as well as their ability to analyze and interpret their findings. The course is assessed through a combination of controlled assessments, coursework, and assessed practical work. Students build high-level skills such as teamwork, creative thinking, and presentation skills, they develop independent research and study skills essential to university, The Extended Certificate is equivalent to one A Level and is welcomed by universities for applicants to many science-based degrees, including Pharmacy, Psychology, Nursing, and Environmental Sciences. The high level of practical skills students will develop during this course makes it an ideal preparation for the university study of scientific subjects and work within a laboratory, medical, or other scientific workplace such as engineering and market analysis.
All students much achieve at least five grades 5-9 (including Maths and English).
