Studying Geography stimulates an interest in and sense of wonder about places, people and the environment. It bridges the gap between the arts and sciences, and develops a wide variety of skills that are transferable to higher education courses and the world of work. The course consists of a series of physical and human units which are assessed by written examinations. Some of the units are compulsory whereas others are optional. An individual investigation of between 3,000 and 4,000 words has to be completed and it must include the use of data collected during fieldwork. A residential Geography field trip is included in the course. Students will study the complex and dynamically changing world by considering economic, social, environmental and political issues.
There is no requirement to have studied Geography at GCSE but an appreciation of its relevance to our lives are good reasons for studying Geography at an advanced level.
