Religious Studies
Course summary
- You will become a critical thinker utilising this in lessons and the wider world. - You will acquire the skills of analysis, critical evaluation and asserting your view with assurance. - You will study key Philosophers, Ethicists and Theologians and debate the validity of their argument. Studying Religious Studies at A Level is an outstanding course for anyone who enjoys reading challenging content, is passionate about developing their skills of analysis, and evaluation and enjoys being able to develop a clear argument (and just enjoys a good argument in general!). The skills learnt studying Philosophy, Ethics and Theology are useful, academically rigorous and eminently worthwhile (this is one of the reasons RS is so popular for those wishing to study Law and Medicine at University!) The important questions you will be looking at are is there a God? Is free will real or just an illusion? Is it ever OK to lie? If so, under what circumstances? Is Pretty Little Thing an ethical business and should we shop there? Does motherhood crush a woman’s personality? Can a country be dictated by religious laws? You’ll be focusing on the skills of distinguishing between truth and fiction, creating a convincing argument, deciding what you think is right and important in your own life and listening/weighing up the different scholarly views.
