Study of politics is the study of power. Who has it? Why do they have it? How can we change this? In addition, the subject allows you to develop your skills in critical thinking and analysis, skills valued in higher education and employment. In your first year, you will study politics in the United Kingdom, including how our government works, the political parties within it, and the influence of the media and voters. You will also look at key political ideas including Liberalism, Conservatism, Socialism, and Feminism. In the second year, you will study the way the world is governed – from democracies to dictatorships, how nations compete and cooperate, as well as the importance and limitations of international organizations such as the United Nations. Students who study this course often go on to do History, Law, Politics, International Relations, and Philosophy at university - all of which allow progression into multiple careers in different sectors, such as business, law, marketing, media, not-for-profit organizations, pressure groups and of course a career in politics.
Five GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English Language or Literature at grade 6 or above.
