All students taking an A-level Biology qualification are expected to receive opportunities to use the various experimental equipment in a laboratory and develop and demonstrate these techniques. You will be expected to carry out 12 required practicals to achieve your practical endorsement award. Practical work is at the heart of all good science teaching, and the required practical activities will allow students to embed their skills and knowledge. The course subject content is divided into 8 units including: • Biological Molecules • Cells • Organisms exchange substances with their environment • Genetic information, variation and relationships between organisms • Energy transfers in and between organisms (A-level only) • Organisms respond to changes in their internal and external environments. • Genetics, populations, evolution and ecosystems • The control of gene expression.
Grade 6 in GCSE biology or 6, 6 in Dual award science and Grade 5 in both Maths and English.
