Course summary

Course content: Unit 1 (external exam) Content will include: the skeletal system, the muscular system, the respiratory system, the cardiovascular system and the energy systems. • The exam will cover 5 assessment outcomes and will be out of 90 marks. • It will be graded at a PASS, MERIT or DISTINCTION. • As well the external assessments pupils will have to complete ten pieces of coursework, covering topics such “Sports Psychology, leadership, Practical performance etc.” Controlled assessments: Pupils will sit 3 controlled assessments over the two years that are externally marked by Pearson. • Unit 2: “Fitness training and programming for health, sport and wellbeing. Learners will explore client screening and lifestyle assessment, training methods and fitness programming. • Unit 19: “Development and provision of sport and physical activity”. They will study the development and provision of sport in the UK and its relationship with global sport, including understanding of what is needed to write a proposal. • Unit 22: “Investigating Business in the sport and active leisure industry”. Investigate how business operates in the sport and active leisure industry and how it responds to trends and other influences to meet the needs of the client.

Entry requirements

At least 5 GCSE passes at Grade 4 including Grade 4 in GCSE English or Grade 4 in GCSE Mathematics

How you'll be assessed

Students complete 13 units over the two years. There is one written exam and 3 external controlled assessments. The other units are assessed through coursework.
