Course summary

Studying A Level Further Maths will extend your range of mathematical skills and techniques beyond that found in A Level Maths. You will gain a deeper understanding of coherence and progression in mathematics and how different areas of mathematics are connected. You will also be able to use your mathematical knowledge to make logical and reasoned decisions in solving problems both within pure mathematics and in a variety of contexts. The course has 2 components: Pure maths: This study of abstract mathematical concepts builds on the ideas seen in regular maths with the addition of complex numbers, matrices and series. Decision Maths: This strand of maths is strongly linked to computer programming. It is all about creating algorithms to solve problems where a decision is required, such as route planning and optimisation problems.
