Course summary
A-Level Physical Education aims to provide the opportunity for a student to explore different aspects of sport. The subject will allow a student to develop their theoretical knowledge and apply it to their own individual sports. The modules that a student will study are: Module 1 Applied Anatomy and Physiology - A student should develop knowledge and understanding of the changes within the body systems prior to exercise, during exercise of differing intensities and during recovery. Module 2 Skill Acquisition - A student should develop knowledge and understanding of how skill learning takes place and the best ways to practise and develop skills in physical activity and sport. Module 3 Sport and Society - A student should develop knowledge and understanding of the interaction between and the evolution of, sport and society. Module 4 Exercise Physiology - A student should understand the adaptations to the body systems through training or lifestyle and how these changes affect the efficiency of those systems. Module 5 Biomechanical Movement - A student should develop knowledge and understanding of motion and forces and their relevance to performance in physical activity and sport. Module 6 Sport Psychology - A student should develop knowledge and understanding of the role played by factors such as personality, arousal and leadership in optimising performance in physical activity and sport. Module 7 Sport and Society and the Role of Technology in Physical Activity and Sport - A student should develop knowledge and understanding of the interaction between, and the evolution of sport and society and the technological developments in physical activity and sport.
