Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) appeals to those who enjoy communicating, have a keen interest in languages, and enjoy learning about other cultures. Knowledge of a second language is an advantage in any field and can open up many career opportunities. At Weatherhead we offer MFL A Level courses in French and Spanish. We cover a range of interesting projects which will enable you to talk about a wide range of topics. The topics are an extension of some of the topics you study at GCSE. The course helps you to analyse and use language in all forms and allows you to see the language in real world resources, taken from newspapers, television and the internet. You will learn how to use different registers of language to write in a variety of situations and use advanced structures to achieve a native level of language. Topics covered at A Level are: ■ Social issues and trends ■ Artistic culture ■ Grammar ■ Works: Literary texts and films
You will need at least a grade 6 at GCSE to study A Level languages. Languages combine well with most other subjects.
