
Course content: Paper 1: Particles and radiation, Waves, Mechanics and Materials, Electricity, Circular Motion and SHM. Paper 2: Thermal Physics, Fields and their consequences and Nuclear Physics Paper 3: Astrophysics and Practical skills Why choose this course? Anyone who: • Has an interest in, and enjoys physics • Wants to find out about how things work in the physical world • Enjoys solving problems • Is taking A-levels in Mathematics or other relevant courses such as Design and Technology and want to take another course that will support your studies. • Enjoys carrying out investigations by the application of imaginative, logical thinking • Wants to use physics to move on to further studies in Higher Education, support other qualifications or enter physics-based employment.
A minimum of 5 GCSE passes (including both English and Mathematics) at Grade 4 or higher. Grade 6 in GCSE Physics or Grade 66 in GCSE Combined Science PLUS Grade 6 in Maths.
There are three externally assessed (exam) papers at A-Level. Paper 1 and Paper 2 consist of 85 marks each. There are 25 marks of multiple choice questions and 60 marks of long and short answer questions. Paper 3 consists of 80 marks with short and long answer questions. All papers are 2 hours long. In addition there will be an assessment of practical work which will be reported separately (Practical Endorsement).
