Course summary

• Language Variation – how language differs across region, gender, ethnicity, occupation, and time. • Child Language Development – how children learn to speak, read, and write. • Language in the Media – exploring representation and persuasion in print, online and broadcast texts. • Language Change – how and why English has evolved over time. • Original Writing & Commentary – producing your own persuasive, journalistic or creative texts with reflective analysis.

Entry requirements

Five or more GCSEs at grade 9–5. Grade 5 or above in English Language and English Literature. A strong interest in how people use language in everyday life.

How you'll be assessed

• Year 1: Internal essays and mock exams to support UCAS predictions. • Year 2: Two final exam papers (Language Variation and Child Language / Change) and one coursework unit (original writing and commentary). All assessments follow the Edexcel A-Level English Language specification.
