How you'll be assessed

The course encourages independent study and wider reading will be a significant part of your studies. You will be expected to read from a diverse wider reading list in your own time and to make thorough and detailed notes on all of the texts you read. You will learn how to approach unseen extracts and poems as well as studying set texts for the exam. You are assessed predominantly by exam – you will sit two exams - each worth 40% of your A-Level. In addition you will complete a non- exam assessment (NEA) which is an ‘Independent Critical Study’ where you must write a comparative essay about two texts. This is teacher assessed and is worth 20% of your A-Level. The exams come at the end of the second year.
