Course summary

A qualification that is engaging and relevant to today’s geographers – a qualification that enables students to engage critically with real world issues and places, apply their own geographical knowledge, understanding and skills to make sense of the world around them, and to help prepare them to succeed in their chosen pathway. Students will study in Year 12 Tectonic Processes and Hazards, Coastal Landscapes and Change, Globalisation and Diverse Places. In Year 13 students will study The Water Cycle and Water Insecurity, The Carbon Cycle and Energy Insecurity, Superpowers and Migration, Identity and Sovereignty. There is also a compulsory Non-Examined Assessment (NEA) which is an independent investigation that students will complete on a question of their choice. Fieldwork involves a residential stay completing their NEA data collection.

Entry requirements

5 x grade 5 or above (including GCSE Maths and English Language) Grade 5 in essay-based subject i.e English Literature, History, Geography, Religious Studies etc

How you'll be assessed

Paper 1 (physical geography): 2 hrs 15 mins Paper 2 (human geography): 2hrs 15 mins Paper 3 (synoptic paper): 2hrs 15 mins Plus a coursework assessment (NEA) between 3000- 4000 words.
