Students will explore three disciplines: drama, music and musical theatre. The course will give students many chances to perform, devise and direct in each area and enhance their knowledge and understanding of the industry through exploring and analysing the performing arts business and work experience. Students can choose to study the single National Extended Certificate in Drama and Performing Arts, equivalent to one A Level or the Double National Diploma in Performing Arts, which is equivalent to two A Levels. The course is very rewarding but hard work. During the course, students will work practically, complete coursework and sit a written exam on Investigating Practitioners. When working practically, students are expected to put in additional time for rehearsals and performances outside of school hours. The lessons will consist of practical and theoretical. For the written exam, students will investigate the work of Theatre Practitioners and demonstrate their understanding of how Practitioners communicate themes within their work. We expect Performing Arts students to complete at least 6 hours of independent practical and revision work outside of lesson time each week, in addition to watching and taking part in performances.
5 GCSE’s grade 4 or above. In addition, an aptitude for Performance Art.
Assessment is coursework and portfolio based.
