Sociology is the study of human society and social interaction where students will look at how membership in one’s social group affects individual behaviour. The first year of A level include the following topics: • Education: the impact of class, gender, race and other elements on achievements in Education. • Research methods: how sociological research into education is conducted. • One optional unit from the following list: Culture & Identity, Families and households, Health and Work, Poverty and Welfare. The second year of the A level will include: • Crime and deviance: criminal and deviant behaviour, and how the media portrays criminals. • Theory and methods: research methods and the different theoretical approaches to Sociology. • The media
5 x grade 5 or above (including GCSE Maths andEnglish Language) Grade 5 in an essay-based subject i.e English Literature, History, Geography, Religious Studies etc
The course is externally assessed by 3 examinations; they include a section of short–answer questions and a section of extended writing.
