Sketchbooks and journals will be used to record understanding of art, craft and design in contemporary society and in other times and cultures. The interpretation of ideas, feelings and meanings will be explored. Historical and contemporary styles and genres will be examined. The course includes development of lens-based skills in order to record experiences and observations in visual form, learning to choose appropriate camera types and their applications, using image manipulation software, developing and printing photographic images, presentation, layout and mounting of images. Work will be in one or more of the following areas: portraiture, landscape, still life, documentary, photo journalism, experimental imagery photographic installation, video, TV and film.
5 GCSE’s at grade 5+ (or Merit+ in equivalents). If the 5 passes does not include English (language or literature) and mathematics of grade 5+, students must, in addition, achieve at least a grade 4 in English (language or literature) and mathematics. In addition, GCSE pass in Art and Design at a Grade 4 or above.
Component 1 - 60% Personal investigation and development of an idea. To include a written communication of 3000 words. Component 2 - 40% Final 15 hour externally set assignment.
