A level Further Maths is designed for students who wish to study beyond an A Level in Maths, and provides a solid foundation for progression into further study particularly in Maths, engineering, computer science, the sciences and economics. – Further Maths A level is one of the top ten subjects held in the highest regard by the top universities. Further Maths is both broader and deeper than A Level Maths. As well as building on the algebra and calculus introduced in A Level Maths, the Further Maths pure core content introduces complex numbers and matrices. The non-core content includes different options that can enable learners to specialise in areas of Maths that are particularly relevant to their interests and future aspirations. Currently we are offering Mechanics and Discrete as our options in Further Maths. These will support and enhance skills explored in the Mechanics aspects that exist in A level Maths, as well as introducing work on algorithms and graph theory.
5 x grade 5 or above (including GCSE English Language) Grade 7 in GCSE Maths
Assessment is entirely based on 4 x 1½ hour written external examinations • Pure Core 1 (25%) - compulsory • Pure Core 2 (25%) – compulsory Plus two of: • Mechanics (25%) • Discrete (25%)
